This program aims to educate students to become registered nurses with a specific focus on learning disabilities. The program emphasizes working in partnership with individuals and families to improve autonomy, promote health, and support inclusion. Students will explore key themes in contemporary learning disability practice, including meeting health needs, community engagement, person-centered planning, inclusion and integration, addressing health inequalities, legislation, forensic practice, care planning and assessment, evidence-based practice, research methods and appraisal. The program utilizes a variety of learning and teaching methods to ensure graduates have both the necessary knowledge and understanding of learning disabilities and a portfolio of intellectual and personal skills. The program employs a student-centered, practical, and participative approach, focusing on relevance to employer needs.

Assessment:
Assessment methods vary between modules and may include unseen examinations, class tests, essays, management reports, case studies, presentations, and group work.

Careers:
Graduates will be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). They will find employment opportunities in both NHS and third sector services, such as assessment and treatment units, community learning disability teams, hospital liaison services, forensic services, child and adolescent mental health services, and other specialist services.
Other:
- The program utilizes GCU's virtual learning environment and state-of-the-art inter-professional simulation suite.
- Students have the opportunity to undertake clinical placements in a variety of NHS Health Boards and third sector organisations throughout west and central Scotland.
- The program is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Graduates will be eligible for membership of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).

- Uniforms: approximately £14 each. The number of uniforms you require depends on the duration of your course and can range from two to four.
- Occupational health checks and vaccination set fee of £372
- Membership of Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme. New applications cost £59. Updates to the existing scheme record cost £18. Invoices will be issued by the University for payment of all of the above additional costs in Trimester B (March/April) of the first year of your programme.
