About Program

Program Overview

Mestrado em Cięncias Geofísicas

Program Overview

The Mestrado em Cięncias Geofísicas aims to form professionals in the areas of Meteorology, Oceanography, and Geophysics, with the capacity to intervene in Earth monitoring systems, climate modeling, ocean and geological processes, natural risk assessment, and extreme geophysical phenomena. The program includes core components of Earth Physics, Observation Systems, and Mathematical Modeling of the Atmosphere, Ocean, and Globe.

Objectives

The program's objectives include:

  • Acquisition and manipulation of data on the Earth's physical system for atmosphere, ocean, and interior modeling
  • Meteorological forecasting
  • Operational oceanography methods
  • Geophysical prospecting
  • Characterization of recent climate evolution and climate change modeling
  • Development of Earth monitoring methodologies and systems
  • Assessment of natural risks, including extreme geophysical phenomena (floods, droughts, heatwaves, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes)
  • Evaluation of renewable energy resources, water, and hydrocarbons

Professional Outcomes

Graduates can pursue careers in:

  • Companies, laboratories, and public institutions in the natural resource exploration sector
  • Geophysical prospecting companies or consulting firms specializing in natural risks, environmental impact, and territorial management
