Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours

Program Summary

Physiotherapy is an important profession in the healthcare and rehabilitation discipline. The profession offers services to people of various age groups in order to maintain, improve or restore movement ability and function which are affected due to injury, disease, disability or the process of ageing. In this programme, students will develop the skills to evaluate, identify and treat human movement problems using a wide range of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions. In addition, students will be trained to educate the public on active lifestyle in order to prevent movement deterioration which normally leads to decline in functional independence and quality of life. Physiotherapy is a clinical-based study and students will have the opportunity to apply the theoretical foundation and practical skills learnt in classrooms in real-life environments and clinical settings.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

1. An international candidate is required to fulfill the English Language proficiency requirements as follows:

• Obtained TOEFL (550), IELTS(6) or MUET (4) results which fulfil the score or minimum band requirements prescribed by the programme; or
• For certain programmes, a candidate is required to sit for an English Proficiency Test (EPT) and if he/she fails to achieve the level specified by the programme, the candidate is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM) in a maximum period of two (2) semesters before he is allowed to register for the study programme. The candidate shall register as a Non Graduating Student.

2. The Faculty/Institute may grant exemption to the requirements specified in subregulation (1) for the international candidate who:

• will be writing his/her thesis/dissertation in the Malay/ Arabic languages;
• has the academic qualifications obtained from any local universities recognised by the Senate; or
• is originally from a country where English is the official language or he/she has the academic qualifications obtained from any higher learning institution which uses English as the medium of instruction.

Life at Faculty

The Faculty of Health Sciences, UKM is situated at the heart of Kuala Lumpur and within reach of various popular places of interest. As such, life can never be boring through the study period. The faculty is equipped with basic and advanced facilities such as modern-looking lecture halls and classrooms, library, cafeteria, mart, pharmacy, prayer rooms for males and females and students' resting areas. At the physiotherapy program level, students have access to a conducive learning environment via talented academic staff, well-equipped practical rooms, gymnasium, movement analysis laboratory and in-campus physiotherapy clinic. The program has good networking with local and international partners, which enable good access to established institutions for clinical and industrial training as well as research opportunities. Students also have opportunities to participate in various outdoor and community-related activities via physiotherapy students' club and the faculty's students' association. The program also has a tight-knit relationship with the alumni and industrial stakeholders to help mould the students to become a professional in their career pathway.
