Institute of Visual Informatics (IVI) Programme

Program Summary

The Master programme is a research and thesis mode. Candidates must complete at least 6 credits (units) course, writing a thesis, and defend research results (viva voce) for graduation. In addition, the candidates are required to present their research proposal and research results at the end of the study (oral examination). The presentation will be evaluated by the supervisor and a member of the Graduate Committee. For additional requirements, candidates must publish at least one (1) article in journals (accepted for publication) and extend the findings orally at least in the related conference prior to graduation (subject to change). Candidates are also eligible to participate in internship programs abroad through the MOU signed by the IVI. Candidates can also follow mobility programs offered by the University such as attending conferences, short courses, or workshops abroad.

Life at the Faculty

The research in IVI covers the latest emerging technologies and remains the cornerstone in many areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality, Autonomous Systems, System Integration, Additives Manufacturing, Big Data Analytics, Robotics, and Cyber Security. The Institute is privileged to have a credible International Advisory Board comprising high-profile individuals from academia and industry both nationally and internationally that represent countries from the United Kingdom (UK), Europe, Taiwan, and Malaysia. To date, IVI has 15 Principal Research Fellows and more than 50 Associate Fellows from different disciplines including engineering, computer science, medical, social science, and economy. The Fellows and Associate Fellows of the Institute are experienced researchers (100% PhD holders) and they are all passionate and dedicated to their respective fields of research with a wide industrial collaborations experience.

Programme Requirements

Local Students

A person who wishes to apply for admission to the Doctorate programme shall possess the following qualification:

1. Bachelor's Degree by obtaining a good Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from a University or any institution of higher learning recognized by the Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA) and/ or having accreditation recognized by foreign Accreditation Body, or institution who has accreditation as prescribed by a programme.
2. Doctor of Medicine degree or Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University or any institution of higher learning or an equivalent degree from any institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate.
3. Any other requirements recognized by the Senate obtained through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
4. Fulfils other requirements prescribed by the programme (if applicable).
5. Fulfils requirements of the Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA).

International Students

A person who wishes to apply for admission to the Doctorate programme shall possess the following qualification:

1. English Language Proficiency Requirements

1. An international candidate is required to fulfill the English Language proficiency requirements as follows:

• Obtained TOEFL (550), IELTS(6) or MUET (4) results which fulfill the score or minimum band requirements prescribed by the programme.
• For certain programmes, a candidate is required to sit for an English Proficiency Test (EPT) and if he/she fails to achieve the level specified by the programme, the candidate is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM) in a maximum period of two (2) semesters before he is allowed to register for the study programme. The candidate shall register as a Non-Graduating Student.

2. The Faculty/Institute may grant exemption to the requirements specified in subregulation (1) for the international candidate who:

• Will be writing his/her thesis/dissertation in the Malay/ Arabic languages.
• Has the academic qualifications obtained from any local universities recognized by the Senate.
• Is originally from a country where English is the official language or he/she has the academic qualifications obtained from any higher learning institution which uses English as the medium of instruction.
