Professional Certificate In CRISPR Technology

Program Learning Outcome

The program aims to achieve the following learning outcomes:


  • HPP1: To discuss the principle and mechanism of gene editing and modulations using CRISPR technology
  • HPP2: To elaborate the experimental workflow and technical aspects of CRISPR technology-mediated gene editing and modulations
  • HPP3: To design the experimental workflow for editing gene in cell line using CRISPR technology
  • HPP4: To conduct gene editing experiment in eukaryotic cells using CRISPR technology

Curriculum Structure

This Professional Certificate comprises two courses that cover the theory and practical (laboratory hands-on) aspects of CRISPR Technology, primarily on CRISPR-mediated gene editing and modulations in human cells. The course details are as follows:


  1. SPJJ5111: Fundamental and Application of CRISPR Technology - 1.0 credit
  2. SPJJ5122: Gene Editing and Modulation - 2.0 credits Total Credit Hours: 3.0

Entry Requirements

The following prerequisites apply to admission:


  1. A bachelor's degree in an area related to Biology, Genetics, or such
  2. A bachelor's degree in another field with at least two years of relevant job experience
  3. Possess a diploma and at least three years of work experience in a relevant industry

Course 1: Fundamental and Applications of CRISPR Technology

  • Topic 1: CRISPR as bacteria adaptive immunity system
  • Topic 2: Principle of CRISPR gene editing in eukaryotes
  • Topic 3: Cas protein variants and application of CRISPR technology
  • Topic 4: CRISPR ethical issues
  • Topic 5: General CRISPR workflow and technical aspects

Course 2: Gene Editing and Modulation

  • Topic 1: CRISPR experimental workflow and study design (Part I)
  • Topic 2: CRISPR experimental workflow and study design (Part II)
  • Topic 3: Laboratory practical (Part Ia-1c) – Cloning, bacterial transformation and clonal validation
  • Topic 4: Laboratory practical (Part IIa-IIe) – CRISPR delivery, cells selection, harvesting and validation of edited cells
  • Topic 5: CRISPR experiment case studies and results discussion
