Introduction to the Biomedical Science Program

The Biomedical Science program at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) is one of the pioneering programs that led to the establishment of the Faculty of Health Sciences in 1992. This program has received international accreditation from the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) in the United Kingdom since 1997. It is also one of the six universities that formed the Pan-Asian Biomedical Science Consortium in 2012, which includes Malaysia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Thailand. The curriculum is regularly updated every five years based on the requirements of the Allied Health Professions Act 2016, industry needs, and other stakeholders. Students have the opportunity to undergo laboratory internships and industrial training both locally and abroad.

The program is recognized by the relevant professional bodies and is accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Admission Requirements

Specific Program Requirements

Candidates with Matrikulasi KPM/Asasi

• Obtained a minimum PNGK of 3.00 at the Matrikulasi KPM/Asasi level
• Obtained a minimum grade of B- (NGMP 2.67) at the Matrikulasi KPM/Asasi level in the following subjects:
  • Biologi
  • Kimia
  • Matematik/ Matematik (M)/ Matematik (T)
• Obtained a minimum Band 3.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for examinations starting from the 1st semester of 2021 or Band 3 for examinations up to 2020, following the validity period on the application date, or Band 5.5 in IELTS or a score of 46 in TOEFL or Band 7 in the Higher Education English Test (HEET) or equivalent
• Passed the examination and/or interview set by the faculty

Candidates with STPM/A-Level

• Obtained a minimum grade of B- (NGMP 2.67) at the STPM/A-Level level in the following subjects:
  • Biologi
  • Kimia
  • Matematik/ Matematik (M)/ Matematik (T)
• Obtained a minimum Band 3.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for examinations starting from the 1st semester of 2021 or Band 3 for examinations up to 2020, following the validity period on the application date, or Band 5.5 in IELTS or a score of 46 in TOEFL or Band 7 in the Higher Education English Test (HEET) or equivalent
• Passed the examination and/or interview set by the faculty

Candidates with Diploma Equivalent

• Possess a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology/Biomedical Science or equivalent from institutions recognized by the University and the Malaysian Government, with a minimum CGPA of 3.50
• Or, possess a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology/Biomedical Science or equivalent from institutions recognized by the University and the Malaysian Government, with a minimum CGPA of 3.33 and have at least 3 years of working experience in a diagnostic laboratory
• Candidates are required to submit their academic transcript from Semester 1 to the final semester
• Obtained a minimum Band 3.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for examinations starting from the 1st semester of 2021 or Band 3 for examinations up to 2020, following the validity period on the application date, or Band 5.5 in IELTS or a score of 46 in TOEFL or Band 7 in the Higher Education English Test (HEET) or equivalent
• Passed the examination and/or interview set by the faculty

For Citizens

• First semester: RM 2,390.00
• Subsequent semesters: RM 1,190.00
• Total tuition fees (minimum 8 semesters): RM 10,720

For International Students (UKMi)

• Registration fee: RM 2,000.00
• Tuition fees: RM 10,400.00
• Tuition fees per semester: RM 8,600.00
• Total tuition fees (minimum 8 semesters): RM 72,600.00

For International Students

• Registration fee: RM 2,520.00
• Tuition fees: RM 12,400.00
• Tuition fees per semester: RM 11,800.00
