Bachelor of Science With Honours (Bioinformatics)

Overview

Bioinformatics is a discipline that integrates the computational sciences and information technology to solve problems in biosciences and biotechnology requiring computational and information science solutions. Bioinformatics enables the development of algorithms or software that allow the analysis and interpretation of big data in molecular biology. The focus of such data analysis is primarily limited to the scope of molecular biology data, specifically, the analysis of sequence and macromolecular structures to gain insights and discoveries in the post genomics era in addition to applied research and development in genetics, vaccinology, enzyme technology, and drug discovery that are directed at improving the quality of human health and economic progress.

Objectives

• To produce graduates with nationalistic aspiration and proficiency in the field of Bioinformatics in support of nation development by adopting ethical values and professionalism.
• To produce graduates who are competent in the knowledge and practice of Bioinformatics and soft skills needed to address local and global issues.
• To produce graduates who are competitive, innovative, entrepreneurial, possessing leadership characteristics as well as good communication skills in contributing ideas to stakeholders and the community.

1. Complete 12 years of Primary and High School education; and
2. Obtain High School (e.g., Higher Secondary Certificate, Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate, Tawjihiyah, Ijazah Sekolah Menengah Atas, High School Diploma); and
3. Meet minimum English requirement set by faculty; and
4. Pass UKM interview (if required); and
5. Meet faculty-specific requirement;
