Pediatric Summer Research Program

The Pediatric Summer Research Program offers students a well-rounded exposure to various medical specialties. The program includes research topics such as pediatric advocacy, infectious diseases, and medical genetics.

  • Autumn Atkinson, MD: Pediatric advocacy, structured exposure to clinical settings, and quality improvement projects.
  • Anthony Flores, MD, MPH, PhD: Pediatric infectious diseases.
  • Jacqueline Hecht, PhD: Medical genetics, orthopedic genetic disorders, and craniofacial disorders.
  • Hope Northrup: Medical Genetics Summer Scholar Program, focusing on medical genetics and related projects.
  • Tina Findley, MD: Neonatal-perinatal medicine, congenital heart defects, and newborn screening.

Medical Genetics Summer Scholar Program

Overview

The Medical Genetics Summer Scholar Program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of medical genetics. The program includes clinical exposure, research projects, and presentations.


Clinical Exposure

Students will interact with the medical genetics team, including MDs, genetic counselors, and metabolic dieticians. They will attend Medical Genetics Rounds, outpatient clinics, and weekly conferences.


Research Projects

Each student will undertake a project in collaboration with faculty members. The project will be decided upon and performed during the program.


Presentations

Students will provide a presentation at the end of the program, centering around their summer experience and project.


Stipend and Duration

Summer Scholars will receive a stipend of $25.00 per hour for 40 hours a week. The program duration is flexible, ranging from 8 to 10 weeks.


Application

The 2023 call for Summer Scholars applications will be made mid-December 2022, with a deadline of February 1, 2023.
