University Program Information
The university offers a comprehensive swim program, providing group swim lessons for both adults and youth.
Adult Group Swim Lessons
The adult group swim lessons are designed to progress the ability of participants in, on, and around the water, surrounded by peers with similar swimming abilities. The program follows the American Red Cross Learn-to-swim curriculum, emphasizing meeting the individual's needs and incorporating water safety into each lesson.
- The program has three levels:
- Adult Group Swim Lesson Level 1: Learning the Basics - Participants learn basic swimming strokes and skills needed to stay safe and help keep others safe in and around the water.
- Adult Group Swim Lesson Level 2: Improving Skills and Swimming Strokes - Participants gain proficiency in basic aquatic skills and the six basic swimming strokes.
- Adult Group Swim Lesson Level 3: Swimming for Fitness - Participants refine their front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, and turns to build endurance.
- Cost:
- $55 for ECU Student
- $65 for CRW Member
- $75 for Non-member
Youth Group Swim Lessons
The youth group swim lessons introduce basic aquatic skills and develop positive attitudes and safe practices in, on, and around the water. The program has four levels:
- Landlubber (Youth Group Lessons Pre-k): Introduces basic aquatic skills to children aged four and younger.
- Mighty Matey (Youth Group Lessons Level 1): Introduces basic aquatic skills and develops positive attitudes, effective swimming habits, and safe practices.
- Swashbuckler (Youth Group Lessons Level 2): Focuses on giving participants success with fundamental skills, including gliding, floating, and recovering to a vertical position.
- First Mate (Youth Group Lessons Level 3): Expands proficiency of previously learned skills, including survival floating, front crawl, and elementary backstroke.
- Captain (Youth Group Lessons Level 4): Improves aquatic skills, increases endurance, and introduces new strokes, including the sidestroke, breaststroke, back crawl, and butterfly.
