Subject Information
Overview
This subject immerses students in video news storytelling, production, and authentic newsroom experiences. Students learn production techniques for TV news-style stories and explore contemporary online video news forms and professional practice. Students contribute journalism to the local newsroom in a cross-platform environment ranging from audio to online publishing of their curated video content.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to record, script and edit news stories;
- be able to display competent voicing for video and audio;
- be able to demonstrate creativity in developing different ways of framing online video news;
- be able to reflect on professional practice, including media law, ethics and safety;
- be able to curate video stories into edited packages for broadcast or online dissemination; and
- be able to work competently in teams.
Syllabus
This subject will cover the following topics:
- TV news conventions, production and scriptwriting, including writing to pictures
- Voicing: narration and pieces to camera
- Visual storytelling
- Innovative styles of online video news
- Creative thinking
- Editing and curating
- Team work
- Media law, ethics, and safety
Special Resources
This subject requires access to specialist recording equipment and studio facilities. On campus students can access these facilities in the School of Communication and Creative Industries authentic learning spaces. Distance students will either need to work remotely into the campus newsroom or borrow/purchase suitable equipment for their home.
