MPI115 Imaging and Visualisation
This subject introduces students to key concepts in the capture, storage, analysis, manipulation, and display of visual images based on data. Students explore the ways data visualisation has changed, and continues to change the way we understand and live in our world.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to competently capture and store digital image data, and demonstrate an understanding of a variety of media formats
- be able to use current industry standard image processing/manipulation software and tools
- be able to apply a technical understanding of the uses of visual data in response to a range of conceptual problems
- be able to demonstrate preliminary emergence of an individual hybrid media aesthetic
- be familiar with digital imaging and data visualisation terminology and practice
- be able to produce visual imagery for print and/or projection

- File storage and management
- Metadata - overview, filter, zoom - details on demand
- Analysis & manipulation
- Capture, production & storage
- The 'right' to unmake
- Politics, decision making and decision communication
- Code as muse: geographies - maps
- Data: reweaving community
- Data: visualisation and activism
- Visualisation - modes of presentation
Special Resources
Students are required to have access to the industry standard graphic design software package - the Adobe Creative Suite.
