EPT217 Professional Experience 3: Primary Classrooms K-2
This subject is the third in a series of professional experience subjects, building on students' experience of primary teaching through a 20-day supervised placement in a Primary K-2 setting. Students will apply the theoretical and practical learning outcomes from university-based subjects, while under the professional supervision of a practicing classroom teacher.
Subject Outlines
Students will develop and apply a range of research-informed and contextually appropriate strategies and skills to design, implement, assess, and evaluate extended series of context-appropriate lessons in English, Mathematics, and other key learning areas. They will design, implement, assess, and evaluate a unit of work for an identified group of learners, which will include appropriate pedagogical approaches to meet learners' needs.
Availability
The subject is available in Session 2, with on-campus offerings at the Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, and Wagga Wagga campuses.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Apply the process of Backward Design to design a sequence of lessons and/or a unit of work to meet the identified needs of a group of learners
- Plan and implement differentiated pedagogical and assessment strategies appropriate for a range of diverse learning needs
- Identify, evaluate, and implement a diverse range of management strategies that are congruent with children's learning and behavioral needs
- Demonstrate effective and contextually appropriate communication skills that facilitate learning and develop and maintain positive professional relationships
- Critically evaluate significant incidents experienced during their professional experience with reference to current educational theory and formulate and revise personal and professional goals

This subject will cover the following topics:
- Designing diagnostic assessment
- Understanding and applying differentiation strategies
- Reflecting on patterns of communication
- Intra-personal awareness of self as a teacher
- Understanding and applying a Backward Design approach to designing learning experiences
- Characteristics of positive learning environments
Workplace Learning
This subject contains a 20-day compulsory workplace learning component, consisting of a supervised placement in a Primary K-2 setting.
