University of Essex BA (Hons) Curating Program
The University of Essex offers a BA (Hons) Curating program, which provides students with the intellectual and practical skills necessary to succeed in the field of curating. This program combines classroom-based learning with hands-on experience in museums and galleries.
Overview
The BA (Hons) Curating program is a three-year full-time course that explores the history and theory of exhibition design, as well as the practical aspects of curating. Students will gain an overview of major developments in art history and learn about the history and theory of exhibition design. The program also offers opportunities for students to engage in object-based learning and to develop their digital skills.

Placement and Year Abroad
The program offers students the opportunity to spend a year or a term studying abroad at one of the University's partner universities. Students can also choose to spend a year on a placement, gaining practical experience in a museum, gallery, or other relevant organization.
Teaching and Assessment
Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, and discussion classes. Assessment methods include coursework, such as essays, analysis of source material, exhibition reviews, and virtual portfolios, as well as written examinations.
Fees and Funding
The home/UK fee for the program is 」9,790 per year, while the international fee is 」21,500 per year. There may be scholarships, bursaries, or discounts available to help with the cost of the course.
Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for the program include:
- A-levels: BBB - BBC or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of 2 full A-levels
- BTEC: DDM - DMM or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of the equivalent of 2 full A-levels
- IB: 30 - 29 points in the IB Diploma or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points to include a minimum of 2 Higher Level subjects
- English language requirements: IELTS 6.0 overall, or specified score in another equivalent test
English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English language requirements, which include an IELTS score of 6.0 overall or a specified score in another equivalent test.
