University of Canterbury Pre-master's Two Semester Programme

Overview

The University of Canterbury (UC) Pre-master's two semester programme is a comprehensive pathway into master's study for international students who hold an advanced diploma or an associate degree, but not a full bachelor's degree. Upon completion of the pre-master's programme, with a minimum GPA requirement, students will be guaranteed entry to a range of master's degrees across various disciplines.

Entry Requirements

To enter the Pre-master's two semester programme, students must be international students and hold an advanced diploma or associate degree. Some additional prerequisites may also apply depending on the intended master's degree. Students will also need to meet the English language entry requirements with the equivalent of IELTS 6.0, with no band below 5.5.

Programme Details

• Duration: 32 weeks
• Fees: NZ$32,400 (indicative only, based on revision each year, and does not include additional costs such as course materials, insurance, and levies)
• Start Dates:
  • 13 October 2025
  • 16 February 2026
  • 21 September 2026
• Programme Structure: The pathway comprises one semester of coursework delivered exclusively by the UC International College (UCIC), preparing students for postgraduate study at UC, and a second semester in advanced undergraduate courses in the chosen fields of interest, delivered by UC.

After completing the Pre-master's two semester programme (with a minimum GPA), students can apply to enter their chosen master's degree programme at UC. The available master's degrees include:

Additional Information
