Master of Marketing
The Master of Marketing (MMktg) is a specialized marketing degree that provides practical, targeted expertise with hands-on project and portfolio work to prepare students for today's fast-paced and tech-driven marketing industry.
Introduction
UC's Master of Marketing offers those from non-marketing backgrounds an exciting pathway into the world of marketing. This degree provides practical expertise for today's fast-paced and tech-driven marketing industry.
What Will My Study Involve?
- Learn all aspects of foundational marketing, including marketing strategy, consumer insights, analytics, and digital marketing.
- Gain insight into real-world issues and draw on the best knowledge of academics and practitioners alike for skills necessary to enter the workforce.
- Strong focus on transferable skills to apply knowledge to multiple contexts and adapt in a dynamic market, including project work, career development seminars, and additional certification opportunities.
Entry Requirements
For entry to the Master of Marketing, students will need to have completed either any previous bachelor's study in Aotearoa New Zealand with at least a B Grade Point Average in their 300-level courses or the Postgraduate Certificate in Digital Marketing (or other approved equivalent degrees).
- If an international student needs help meeting these requirements, they can study one of UC's International Pre-Master's pathways to gain entry into this degree.
- If a domestic student needs help meeting these requirements, they can study UC's Diploma in Advancing University Studies to gain entry into this degree.
- If English is not the first language, students are also required to meet UC's Postgraduate language requirements.
Degree Structure
The MMktg is made up of 180 points, which includes 105 points of compulsory courses and 60 points of courses towards a major subject. A final project course will be completed towards the end of study, so students have the necessary knowledge to apply it to a real-world situation.
- Students can either study exclusively online or on campus through a mixture of in-person and online courses.
- Beginning in either February or July, students can complete the master's within 17 months full-time or up to 4 years part-time.
Online Study Option
Students can study either on campus or exclusively online. The online programme follows different term dates and has a more prescribed course list.

Complete a total of 45 points from one of the following options:
- MKTG671 Applied Marketing Project (30 points)
- One 15-point course chosen from these options or other approved 600-level courses
- MKTG681 Consultancy Project (45 points)
