Introduction to Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences
Tampere University (TAU) and Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) form a multidisciplinary Tampere University Community (TUNI). The strengths of the university and university of applied sciences are technology, health, and society.
Data and Analytics in Business Development
The training provides a combination of researched information and case examples on data-driven business development and operations.
Description
Data and analytics are key factors in the development of an organization's operations. The real competitive advantage is achieved when data can be analyzed and utilized in different areas of business. Artificial intelligence provides new opportunities for analytics support, but the foundation of everything is understanding how data is used to support decision-making and development.
Objectives
The training program aims to answer questions such as:
- How does management and organizational development change in a data-driven operating environment?
- What opportunities does data analytics bring to your organization?
- What are the new possibilities for utilizing data?
- What potential does data mass contain?
- What does data analytics mean in practical work, and how does it change operating methods?
- How can the right data in the right place be the key to an organization's success?

The program consists of three main parts:

- Business in transition - how to lead faster, better, and more customer-oriented with knowledge

- Technologies in a nutshell
- Analytics and Visualization in Business Development (10-11 March 2026)
- New perspectives on operations brought by visualization
- How to make invisible things visible with data-based visualizations? How can artificial intelligence support analytics-based operations?
- Visual analytics in business development - why, what, and how?
- Interaction with data and visualization tools
- Storytelling as a business accelerator
- Opportunities for predictive analytics in different industries

Target Group
The training is designed for those interested in knowledge management and responsible for developing their organization's operations. It suits both the private and public sectors. Technology professionals who want to complement their skills with a business and management perspective also benefit from the training.
Teaching Arrangements
The training can be completed in three different ways:
- Lightly, by attending only the training days and applying the new ideas
- In-depth (5 credits), by attending the training days and deepening knowledge through assigned tasks
- Result-oriented (10 credits), by attending the training days, deepening knowledge through tasks, and working on a development project for your organization
Trainers
The trainers include Tampere University's data analytics expert Pasi Hellsten and Arho Suominen, along with several business world gurus and case speakers.
Feedback from Previous Trainings
Previous participants have found the training to provide many interesting insights that they could apply and utilize in their work, such as various visualization methods and data analysis techniques. The training has also given them the ability to work in cooperation with the right data experts and to start data-driven knowledge management in their new result area.
Additional Information
For those who have completed this training, it is recommended to also take the Systems Thinking as a Management Tool training. This training provides effective methods for strategy planning and continuous process development in complex value networks, thus enriching the insights gained from this training.
