Program Overview

Program Details

  • Location: CHUS Hôpital Fleurimont (5 periods) and CHUS Hôtel-Dieu (1 period)

Admission Requirements

  • Prerequisites:
    • Completion of a minimum formation (for internal medicine or pneumology, completion of the common trunk of internal medicine; for family medicine, completion of 2 years of training; for anesthesiology or surgery, completion of 3 years of residency)
    • Mastery of French and English
    • Holding a permit to practice from the CMQ

Program Objectives

  • General Objectives:
    • Acquire knowledge specific to critical care and master the systematic approach to patient evaluation and management
    • Coordinate investigations and treatment while minimizing risks and utilizing resources judiciously
    • Coordinate a multidisciplinary team in patient care and unit management
  • Specific Objectives:
    • Demonstrate a good understanding of scientific and clinical knowledge related to normal physiology, pathophysiology, investigation, and treatment of common critical care pathologies
    • Demonstrate diversified procedural skills, including airway evaluation, ventilation management, and other critical care procedures
    • Develop leadership skills in critical care unit management and patient care

Evaluation Mode

  • Evaluation: Every 4-week period will have a mid-stage and end-of-stage evaluation by supervisors
  • Director's Role: The program director will ensure at least three meetings: one at the beginning to explain objectives and expectations, one mid-program to discuss progress, and one at the end to compile all evaluations

Additional Information

  • Teaching Methodologies: In addition to existing weekly critical care courses, monthly seminars will be organized for clinical monitors to optimize advanced concept teaching
  • Complementary Formation Modules: Included in the stage are ACLS and ATLS updates, as well as an intensive 2-week course in airway management in the operating room (anesthesia)
