Program Description
The Périnatalité program aims to develop the skills of new medical graduates in family medicine who will have an active obstetric practice, including prenatal, antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal care.
Program Objectives
The program seeks to produce leaders in obstetrics/périnatalité in their workplaces. This will be achieved through their knowledge, skills, and attitudes. They will rely on the principles of family medicine to provide comprehensive, global, secure, and continuous obstetric and périnatal care with a patient-centered and family-centered approach, while working with a team of professionals in a first-line périnatalité context.
Program Outcomes
At the end of the program, graduates will be able to:
- Manage pregnant women, including frequent and severe complications of pregnancy, as well as medical complications during pregnancy
- Manage labor and delivery, including vaginal delivery assisted by vacuum extraction, as well as frequent and severe intrapartum and postpartum complications
- Manage newborns, including those with frequent and severe complications
Program Structure
Stages
The program includes stages in périnatalité and neonatology. The duration of each stage is as follows:
- Périnatalité: 2 periods
- Neonatology (including a portion integrated into the périnatalité stage): 1 period
Stage Environments
The program takes place in various environments, including:
- Charles-Lemoyne
- Chicoutimi
- Cowansville
Program Duration
The program lasts for 3 months.
Admission
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
- Be duly registered as R2 in a family medicine residency program or have completed a two-year training in family medicine and be certified by the CMFC
- Have a good command of the French language, both written and spoken
Application Procedure
To apply, candidates must submit:
- A letter of motivation, including their professional project
- A curriculum vitae, highlighting their experiences in obstetrics/périnatalité
eonatology, as well as their participation in GESTA and PRN courses (if applicable) - A letter from the director of professional services of the environment confirming the environment where they will practice (if not available at the time of application, it must be received before the start of the program)
- A document grouping all the evaluation sheets of the family medicine residency stages
Application Deadline
The deadline for submitting applications is December 12, 2025. Interviews will take place from January 12 to 16, 2026, and admission offers will be made on February 11, 2026.
