Enrolment Rules

• Completion of 36 points of study
• GPA 2 and above
• Or interview with Academic Chair Students are highly recommended to complete TOU221 Sustainable Tourism before enrolling in this unit.

Learning Outcomes

1. Discuss the nature of tourism destinations with reference to principles and underpinning theories relevant to sustainable tourism development.
2. Identify the demands of contemporary tourism on host destinations, including economic, social-cultural, community, and environmental impacts.
3. Examine the role of sustainable development and strategic destination management for balancing tourism demand, community stakeholders, and destination development planning needs.
4. Conduct academic and industry-based research to recommend appropriate sustainable tourism development initiatives for the host destination and its stakeholders.
5. Build a professional consultative team with project management skills to work collaboratively and effectively as a team.
6. Produce a sustainable tourism development plan for the host destination stakeholder(s) that reflects their needs and expectations, and its deliverability.
7. Demonstrate successful cross-cultural communications skills and develop working relationships with local communities and stakeholders in a culturally appropriate manner.
