Aviation/Professional Piloting
Overview
The professional piloting curriculum leads to an associate of applied science degree for individuals pursuing a career as a professional pilot. Courses are also offered for currently rated flight crew members to refresh or upgrade their aeronautical knowledge to maintain and enhance their qualifications. Ground schools and related courses are taken in residence, while flight training is arranged through local flying schools.
Undergraduate Program
- Major: Aviation/Professional Piloting -- A.A.S. Degree
- Requirements:
- Complete the general university requirements.
- Complete the A.A.S. degree requirements.
- Complete the following program (major) requirements:
- AVTY 100 -- Private Pilot Ground School (4 credits)
- AVTY 101 -- Private Pilot Flight Training (2 credits)
- AVTY 102 -- Commercial Ground Instruction (3 credits)
- AVTY 103 -- Commercial Flying (2 credits)
- AVTY 155 -- Preventive Maintenance for Pilots (3 credits) or AFPM advisor-approved course(s) (3 credits)
- AVTY 200 -- Instrument Ground School (4 credits)
- AVTY 201 -- Instrument Flight Training (2 credits)
- AVTY 231 -- Arctic Survival (3 credits)
- AVTY 235 -- Elements of Weather (3 credits)
- Complete 15 credits from the following major specialty electives:
- ATM 101X -- Weather and Climate of Alaska (4 credits)
