Introduction to the Professional Diploma in Project Management

The Professional Diploma in Project Management is a one-year, part-time online programme designed to equip professionals with advanced project management expertise. Delivered by the Centre for Project Management at the University of Limerick, this programme is accredited by the PMI-GAC and focuses on practical, work-based learning for progressive management practice.


Programme Overview

During this programme, students will gain insights into the fundamental principles of project and programme management, acquire the soft skills needed to successfully manage and lead projects, and develop awareness of the importance of effective project leadership. The programme will also cover business models and value solutions with a focus on long-term sustainable benefits.


Programme Content

The programme is delivered online and consists of two semesters, with modules taught in sequence in 5-week blocks. The modules include:


  • Project and Programme Management: Science and Principles (MN6901), which explores the core concepts and theories of project management science.
  • People and Behaviour in Projects (PM6901), which focuses on understanding behaviour and people issues in projects.
  • Project and Programme Planning and Control (MN6911), which provides a high-level perspective in developing organisation goals and objectives.
  • Project Leadership & Governance (MN6932), which raises awareness of the importance of effective leadership, having clear roles, responsibilities, and appropriate actions.
  • Programme Value, Risk and Decision-Making (MN6912), which introduces the concepts and frameworks used to develop business models and value solutions through projects and programmes.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honours, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant or appropriate discipline. They should also have at least 4 years of relevant work experience, particularly in a project-related setting. International students are required to provide English language competency certificates.


Fees

The tuition fee for the programme is €6,790 for both EU and non-EU students. Please note that international study visas are only available to students studying full-time in Ireland, and this programme does not qualify for a study visa.
