Advanced Standing Dental Program
The Advanced Standing Dental Program is designed for internationally trained dentists. The program lasts 29 months and typically ends in May.
Application Process
Applicants must apply through the American Dental Education Association's Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists. The UNMC College of Dentistry will accept U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents. Applications must be complete, meet requirements, and meet the deadline to be considered for admission.
Requirements
- English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in speaking and reading English. Non-native English speaking applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and score at least 100 on the internet-based exam.
- National Board Dental Examination Requirements: Applicants must pass Parts I and II of the National Board Dental Examination or pass the Integrated National Board Dental Examination.
- Letters of Evaluation: Three letters of evaluation less than one year old are required, including one from a faculty member and two from mentors or employers.
- Transcripts and Evaluations: A detailed evaluation by Educational Credential Evaluators or World Education Services must be submitted to the American Dental Education Association's Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists.
- Application Fees: A $250 application fee is required, separate from the ADEA CAAPID application fee. An interview fee of $500 includes a psychomotor skills assessment.
Interviews
Selected candidates will be invited to an interview at the discretion of the admissions committee. An interview will not be granted at the request of the applicant. No candidate will be accepted without an interview.
Notification
All candidates are informed electronically of the action taken on their application. If offered admission, candidates are required to submit a nonrefundable tuition deposit of $2,500.
Enrollment Certification Letter and Background Check
An offer of admission will not be final, and enrollment will not be permitted until the satisfactory completion of the enrollment certification, criminal background check, and Nebraska Adult and Child Abuse and Neglect Registry Release document.
Academic Performance and Progression
All students must meet the requirements for academic performance and progression for the DDS program at the UNMC College of Dentistry.

Researchers in the college are focused on oral cancer, one of the most common forms of cancer, with a goal of significantly advancing the understanding of oral cancer progression and drug resistance.
Clinical Research
The Cruzan Center for Dental Research was established to conduct well-designed clinical trials and clinical studies, receiving funding from the NIH, private foundations, and industry.
Patient Care and Engagement
The college provides patient care and engagement opportunities, including:
