Careers

82% of the UK computer games industry is educated to at least undergraduate level. Our course will equip you with in-demand skills across other sectors, including VFX, film, animation, television and motion graphics.

Entry Requirements

  • Preferably to include an Art, Design or Media subject at A level or equivalent level
  • 3 GCSEs at grade C, or grade 4, or above, including English
  • If English is not your first language, you'll need to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 (Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification

Outline:

The Computer Games Art degree at ARU is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to work in the computer games industry. The program covers a wide range of topics, including 3D computer games skills, game design, and game development. Students will learn how to create characters, environments, and other assets for computer games. They will also learn how to use industry-standard software and tools. The program is structured into three years of full-time study. In the first year, students will take courses in the fundamentals of computer games art, including 3D modeling, animation, and texturing. In the second year, students will take courses in more advanced topics, such as game design, level design, and game development. In the third year, students will complete a major project, which will allow them to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in a real-world setting.


Assessment:

Students will be assessed through a combination of coursework, exams, and projects. Coursework will include assignments, quizzes, and presentations. Exams will be written and oral. Projects will be individual and group-based.


Teaching:

The program is taught by a team of experienced faculty members who are active in the computer games industry. The faculty use a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, tutorials, workshops, and project-based learning.


Careers:

Graduates of the Computer Games Art degree will be prepared for a variety of careers in the computer games industry. They will be able to work as 3D artists, game designers, level designers, and game developers. They will also be able to work in related fields, such as film and television production, marketing, and web design.

  • You can pay your fees upfront, in full or in two instalments.
  • We will ask for a deposit of £4,000 or a sponsorship letter.

Entry Requirements:

  • Main
  • 96 UCAS Tariff points from a minimum of 2 A Levels (or equivalent level 3 qualifications), including Art, Design or Media subjects.
  • 3 GCSEs at grade C, or grade 4, or above, including English.
  • If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 (Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
  • You may also be accepted to this course with an IELTS 5.5 (Academic level- with no individual score being lower than 5.5) or equivalent English Language qualification as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University, but will then be required to undertake additional compulsory free English language modules in your first year.

Alternatives:

  • UCAS Tariff points acquired from BTEC Level 3 Diplomas in a related subject are accepted.
  • UCAS Tariff points from Access to HE Diplomas are accepted.
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum of 24 points is accepted, this must include a related subject.
  • UCAS Tariff points from the Irish Leaving Certificate are accepted.
  • UCAS Tariff points from Scottish Highers are accepted.
  • UCAS Tariff points from Scottish Advanced Highers are accepted.

  • Our published entry requirements are a guide only and our decision will be based on your overall suitability for the course as well as whether you meet the minimum entry requirements.
  • Other equivalent qualifications may be accepted for entry to this course; please email answers@aru.ac.uk for further information.
  • Applicants to undergraduate courses can also check our information about undergraduate entry qualifications.
  • You'll need a computer and reliable internet access to successfully engage with your course.
  • We don't accept AS level qualifications on their own for entry to our undergraduate degree courses.
  • However for some degree courses a small number of tariff points from AS levels are accepted as long as they're combined with tariff points from A levels or other equivalent level 3 qualifications in other subjects.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

  • IELTS 6.0 (Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
