The Spanish program at MTSU offers a comprehensive curriculum with a focus on language proficiency, cultural immersion, and career preparation. Students complete coursework in Spanish language, literature, and culture, along with minors in their areas of interest. The program encourages study abroad opportunities and provides a strong foundation for careers in various fields, including teaching, interpreting, and international relations.

  • Major Requirements: 39 hours
  • SPAN 1020: Elementary Spanish II (OR SPAN 1020: Elementary Spanish I)
  • SPAN 1040: Intensive Elementary Spanish (only 3 credit hours counted toward degree)
  • SPAN 2010: Intermediate Spanish I
  • SPAN 2020: Intermediate Spanish II
  • SPAN 3010: Advanced Spanish
  • SPAN 3020: Advanced Spanish
  • SPAN 3080: Introduction to Hispanic Literature
  • SPAN 4000-level: 6 credit hours
  • SPAN upper-division electives: 11 credit hours
  • SPAN 4000: Senior Workshop
  • FL 1000: Intersections of Language and Culture
  • Minor 1: 15-18 hours

Teaching:

  • The program encourages immersion through study abroad opportunities.
  • Students can join MTSU Spanish faculty on an annual immersion program in Cuba, or study Spanish in Mexico, Costa Rica, or Spain.
