The University of West Florida's Master of Arts in History program offers three distinct tracks: Traditional History, Public History, and Interdisciplinary Maritime and Coastal History. Students develop critical thinking, communication, and research skills through rigorous coursework, methods training, and a capstone project.   • HIS 5059: Graduate Methods I: The Historian's Craft:
  • Examines the evolution of historical study and theory while introducing new approaches, including anthropological theory, material culture, and digital archives.
  • EUH 6925: Seminar: Dirt, Death & Disease in Middle Ages:
  • Provides an in-depth exploration of daily life and societal structures in Europe from 300 to 1453 AD, with a focus on health, hygiene, and mortality.
  • ARH 5836: Museum and Gallery Studies:
  • Delves into the theoretical and practical aspects of museum and gallery management, covering promotion, finance, grantsmanship, and space design.
  • HIS 6083: Historic and Heritage Preservation Seminar:
  • Examines the history and principles of historic preservation in the United States, exploring methodologies for cultural resources management in both the public and private sectors.

Entry Requirements:

In addition to the University's graduate admission requirements, applicants must meet the following minimum departmental admission requirements:

  • Submission of official GRE Verbal and Quantitative scores of at least 151 and Analytical Writing score of at least 3.5 or equivalent GRE percentile performance under the old testing platform; or official MAT scaled score of at least 415.
  • This is waived for applications through Spring 2023.
  • Submission of letter of intent
  • Submission of writing sample (undergraduate research paper preferred)
  • Two letters of recommendation
