Agroecology (BSc)

The Agroecology program gives students an understanding of how we can achieve economically sustainable agricultural production while conserving resources and maintaining the integrity of our ecosystems.


Program Details

  • Faculty: Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences
  • Degree: Bachelor of Science (Agroecology)
  • Expected Duration: 4 years
  • Students must complete 120 credit hours of the degree core, restricted electives, and free elective courses.
  • The Agroecology program focuses on the study of managed ecosystems and the application of ecological practices to achieve economically and environmentally sustainable agriculture production.
  • Graduates are prepared for careers at the technical and management levels in government and non-government agencies involved in planning and management of natural and agricultural resources.

Cooperative Education Program

  • Agroecology students have the option to earn credits through the Cooperative Education Program, connecting classroom learning with valuable work experience.

Professional Designation Eligibility

  • Agrologists Manitoba (Manitoba Institute of Agrologists): Graduates of the BSc (Agriculture), BSc (Agribusiness), BSc (Agroecology), and BSc (Food Science) degrees meet the entry-to-practice education requirement and are eligible to become Professional Agrologists (PAg).
  • Agrologists are regulated professionals who have highly specialized knowledge about agriculture and food production and natural resource management.

Admission Requirements

  • The following are minimum requirements for entry into the Bachelor of Science in Agroecology program. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
  • Direct Entry: Applicants are those who have not attended a post-secondary institution or have completed fewer than 24 credit hours at a recognized university or college.
  • Advanced Entry: For applicants who have completed one year (24 credit hours) or more of studies in another faculty at the University of Manitoba or another recognized post-secondary institution with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
