Programme Description

The general purpose of the program is twofold. On the one hand, to help the student acquire in-depth knowledge in the field of specialization through (a) attending pedagogical courses at an advanced level, (b) studying relevant literature, and (c) interacting with the Members of the Department of Education and other students. On the other hand, the program aims to cultivate research skills through (a) attending specialized courses in quantitative and qualitative research, (b) conducting small-scale research within the framework of various courses or/and preparing a Master's Thesis, (c) participating in seminars/conferences of research content.

Professional Profiles of Graduates

  • 25% Nursery Teachers
  • 40% Primary Education Teachers
  • 35% Secondary Education Teachers

Access to Further Studies

Graduates of the program can be accepted into Third Cycle studies (Doctoral Studies)

Admission Requirements

Minimum requirement for admission to the postgraduate program is the possession of a degree (Bachelor's Degree), from a recognized university.

In addition, applicants must meet the following admission criteria:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Certified Copy of Degree
  • Certified Copy of Analytical Grade
  • Statement of Personal Goals and Research Interests (about 2 pages) - A letter in which the individual skills and abilities of the applicant, their biography, as well as their expectations from the program and how it will help them in their personal development and career advancement.

Assessment

Courses include lectures, assignments, teleconferences, and a final examination at the end of each semester. There is continuous assessment with a weight of about 40%. For continuous assessment, there are mandatory weekly interactive activities and a choice of other assignments/studies/presentations or/and evaluation of positive participation in the course. There is also a final assessment with a weight of 60%. The student is informed about their performance in each course. The grades of the individual courses are offset, and, based on a special algorithm, the weighted average of the semester and the cumulative weighted average for the entire studies are calculated.

Graduation Requirements

The student must complete 90 ECTS and all program requirements.

It is required to complete courses, in the right ratio of compulsory and elective, which amount to 90 ECTS credit units.

A minimum weighted average of 2.0 in the overall studies is also required.

The student must successfully complete:

  • Two Research and Evaluation courses (20 ECTS)
  • Two courses from the Theoretical Foundations of Education (20 ECTS)
  • Two compulsory courses in the direction (20 ECTS) and three elective courses in the direction (30 ECTS) (Total 50 ECTS)

*In the case of choosing the Master's Thesis (30 ECTS), the student is exempt from one course of the Theoretical Foundations of Education (10 ECTS) and two elective courses of the direction (20 ECTS).

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Deepen their knowledge in the field of specialization.
  2. Understand basic concepts, principles, and models of specialization and transfer this knowledge to the school context.
  3. Critically examine research results in specialization and their implications for problems faced by the school unit and the education system.
  4. Identify problems at the level of the school unit and the system and plan research to address them.
  5. Analyze educational problems critically, examining their sociological, psychological, and philosophical dimensions, and design action to address them.
  6. Take on leadership roles related to specialization with the aim of improving existing practices or introducing new procedures.
  7. Contribute to the modernization of practices applied in specialization, e.g., Special Education.
  8. Apply skills acquired to address everyday problems, e.g., student/system/program evaluation, planning, and decision-making, communication with internal and external audiences, guidance, training, and development.
  9. Utilize human capital when introducing innovations and introducing new practices and procedures.
  10. Act as agents of change and innovation and support improvement efforts.
