Program Information

Graduates will have the necessary skills to setup and troubleshoot basic computer software and hardware. This program of study also provides students with the proficiency to proceed to the next level of education, the Career Studies Certificate in Network Support.

This certificate will prepare graduates to function in public, private, and government organizations supporting computers as a help desk technician. The certificate will also help prepare graduates for the CompTIA A+ certification exam.

Program Description

This certificate is designed to provide the expertise needed for an entry-level job in computer support. Graduates will have the necessary skills to setup and troubleshoot basic computer software and hardware. This program of study also provides students with the proficiency to proceed to the next level of education, the Career Studies Certificate in Network Support.

This certificate will prepare graduates to function in public, private, and government organizations supporting computers as a help desk technician. The certificate will also help prepare graduates for the CompTIA A+ certification exam.

The program focuses on providing hands-on training in hardware and software troubleshooting, enabling graduates to set up and maintain computer systems within various organizations in the public, private, and government sectors. Additionally, the program prepares students to take the CompTIA A+ certification exam, a valuable credential for aspiring IT professionals. These courses include:

• CSC 111 Introduction to Computers: This foundational course introduces students to basic computer hardware and software concepts, covering topics such as operating systems, application software, and computer networks.
• CSC 215 Operating Systems: This course dives deeper into the operation and maintenance of operating systems, specifically focusing on Windows and Linux environments.
Students gain hands-on experience with installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and user management. Students gain experience using a programming language such as Python.
• CSC 145 Introduction to Networking: This course explores the fundamentals of computer networks and network technologies.
Students learn about network hardware and software, network topologies, and communication protocols.
• CSC 223 Computer Applications: This course builds upon the foundation established in CSC 111, further exploring the functionalities and applications of various software programs commonly used in the workplace, such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.
• CSC 107 Help Desk Applications:Building on the knowledge acquired in CSC 106, this course delves into specific applications and software tools used by help desk technicians, including operating systems, network utilities, and diagnostic tools.
• CSC 212 PC Hardware: This course provides in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with PC hardware components, covering topics such as motherboards, CPUs, memory, storage devices, and peripheral devices.
