Bachelor of Fine Arts
Overview
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) is designed to help students grow their creative talent in preparation for a career as an emerging artist, designer, performer, writer, or critic.
Program Details
- Visual Arts or Graphic and Digital Design major: Students can complete a major in Visual Arts or Graphic and Digital Design as part of their BFA.
- Extended Minors: Students can pair two extended minors in Art History, Creative Writing, Graphic Design, Media & Communications Studies, Theatre, or Visual Arts.
Curriculum
- Well-equipped labs and studios: Students benefit from the guidance of committed faculty in well-equipped labs and studios.
- Artistic skills and related knowledge: The BFA program develops artistic skills and related knowledge, as well as critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and communication skills.
- Interactive experiences: Students have the opportunity to enhance their classroom and studio education with interactive experiences such as gallery and performing arts tours, lectures by visiting artists and industry professionals, and exhibition and performance opportunities.

- Creative economy: The creative economy is one of the world's fastest-growing sectors for income generation, job creation, and export earnings.
- Employment growth: The motion picture and video industries lead employment growth in southwestern British Columbia, with annual revenues for film, TV, and digital media combined adding up to $3 billion.
- Career paths: Opportunities exist to pursue a career in the field of commercial art, working for design agencies, marketing agencies, photography studios, and publishers. Students may also find employment as a gallery curator, art director, or teacher, or opt to be self-employed as a professional artist in their discipline of choice. Alternatively, they may go on to pursue further education or seek employment in other related industries such as business, tourism, entertainment, broadcasting, and more.
Co-operative Education
- Combining study semesters with work terms: Students can enhance their résumé and boost their career prospects by combining study semesters with work terms in relevant employment through the UFV Co-operative Education program.
