Law (General) - LLM

Brief Description

Advance your legal career with a flexible and enriching Master of Laws (General) at Ireland's multi-award winning law school. This programme is designed to deepen your understanding of diverse legal subjects from criminal law and human rights to international trade and family law.


Programme Content

Key Information

  • Complete full-time in one year or part-time over two years
  • Delivered on campus
  • Modules taught during autumn and spring semesters
  • Submit dissertation at the end of the summer semester
  • Full-time and part-time students take 1 core module and 3 elective modules each semester

Autumn Semester

  • Core module: Advanced Legal Research Skills (LA6001) equips students with the skills to engage in sustained research in law at postgraduate level.
  • Electives – choose 3:
    • Law of International Trade Organisations (LA6031)
    • Law of International Business Associations (LA6021)
    • Comparative International Protection of Human Rights Law (LA5153)
    • Law of International Business Transactions (LA6011)
    • Criminal Justice Processes and Sentencing (LA6111)
    • Law of the European Convention of Human Rights (LA6121)
    • Penology and Victimology (LA6051)
    • Regulatory Crime (LM6162)
    • Contemporary Challenges in Medical Law and Ethics (LA6061)
    • Advanced Constitutional Law; Judicial Power and Constitutional Interpretation (LA6071)

Spring Semester

  • Core module: Dissertation Methodology (LA6002) equips students with the ability to conduct high level research in common and civil law systems.
  • Electives – choose 3:
    • Counter Terrorism Law and International Business (LA6232)
    • Global Competition Law (LA6032)
    • International Labour Law (LA6042)
    • Comparative & European Criminal Justice (LA6062)
    • Law of Credit and Security (LA6102)
    • International Protection of Intellectual Property Rights (LA6112)
    • International Criminal Law (LA6132)
    • Policing and Human Rights (LA6142)
    • Criminology (LA4052)
    • International Perspectives on Property Law (LA6082)
    • International Tort Law and Business (LA6072)
    • Advanced Family Law: Standpoint and Rights-Based Perspectives (LA6172)

Summer Semester

  • Dissertation (LA6150) students will demonstrate their ability to write a high level research article on an agreed topic.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honours, grade 2 (2:2) in law or a primary degree in which the legal component accounts for at least 50% of the whole programme.
  • The university may shortlist and invite you to an interview.

  • We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet the standard entry requirements, as long as you can show that you have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for the programme.

  • EU - Full-time: €7,995 - Part-time: €4,500 per annum
  • Non EU - Full-time: €18,600 - Part-time: €9,900 per annum
