Overview
The program focuses on teaching social, cultural, and political history from the early modern period to the present day, with a particular emphasis on the British Isles, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and India. Students will use primary sources from the beginning of their studies and analyze various kinds of historical evidence, including written and oral materials, maps, visual images, feature films, art, and music.
Program Structure
- The program duration is 4 or 3 years.
- The UCAS Code for this program is LV2C.
- The location of the program is Dundee City Campus.
- The start date for the program is September 2026.
Course Content
The program emphasizes 'doing history', where students will consider how the use of sources and media representations inform our reconstructions of the past. Students will reflect critically on key debates in history, looking at how they have developed over time, and how they have shaped our understanding of the world. They will also learn how historians 'make' history and evaluate their roles in today's public life, media, and the heritage industry.
International Relations
International Relations is a key component of the program, focusing on the process by which two or more nations work together to establish trade links and interact politically, culturally, and economically. The program aims to help students develop skills and tools to make sense of these complex interrelationships, including conflict, cooperation, and the increased significance of non-state actors.
Student Experience
The program is designed to provide a personal and supportive learning environment, with a strong community atmosphere and an active History Society. Students will have the opportunity to engage with staff who are actively invested in their well-being and success.
