Data Handling, Assessment & Presentation for Freshwater Quality Monitoring
This module focuses on how to ensure that effective use is made of data from water quality monitoring programmes. Statistical techniques are demonstrated using freely available software. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are introduced for data storage, analysis and presentation.
Outline
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
- Evaluate and recommend different data handling and storage options for water quality data
- Use freely available data storage and analysis software
- Select examples of scenarios where GIS software is appropriate to store and analyse geographically referenced water quality data
- Select and demonstrate appropriate methods for presenting water quality data from a range of water bodies
Practicalities
Total Marks 100: Continuous Assessment 100 marks (5 x online tests 20 marks each).
Requirements
A BSc in Environmental Science or similar subject; or a relevant professional qualification; or a portfolio of work and experience in the area of water quality monitoring.
Fees and Costs
The fee for this module is 400. Applicants from low income countries that are part of the GEMS/Water programme should contact the university for information about fee concessions.
