Certificate II in Drainage

Course Overview

Gain the skills to perform routine tasks to maintain stormwater, drainage, and sewerage systems and qualify for an interim drainer's licence with this entry-level course.


What You'll Study

The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete all core and 5 elective units from the list below.

  • CPCPCM2039: Carry out interactive workplace communication
  • CPCPCM2040: Read plans, calculate quantities and mark out materials
  • CPCPCM2041: Work effectively in the plumbing services sector
  • CPCPCM2043: Carry out WHS requirements
  • CPCPCM2047: Carry out levelling
  • CPCPCM2054: Carry out simple concreting and rendering
  • CPCPCM3024: Prepare simple drawings
  • CPCPCM3025: Install trench support
  • CPCPDR2025: Install stormwater and sub-soil drainage systems and drain work site
  • CPCPDR2026: Install prefabricated inspection openings and inspection chambers
  • CPCPDR3021: Plan layout and install below ground sanitary drainage systems

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.


Resources Required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. You will be required to supply the following items at your own cost:


  • Eye protection - safety glasses or clip-ons where prescription glasses are normally worn (must conform to the Australian Standard 1336 or 1337)
  • Protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • Protective clothing - appropriate work wear (no sleeveless shirts or singlets)
  • Ear protection - as directed - ear muffs or ear plugs (recommended)
  • Disposable dust masks/respiratory aids as directed (recommended)
  • Pens
  • Notepad
  • Scientific calculator

Assessment Methods
