M L 500. Study Abroad

  • Prerequisite(s): Membership in a University of Louisville Language Study Abroad Program or a program approved by the department.
  • Description: Credit awarded upon demonstration of successful completion of program undertaken with prior approval of the department, including a paper or project and an oral or written examination in the language and culture, administered under the supervision of a faculty member.

M L 506. Francophone Women Writers - WR

  • Prerequisite(s): Junior standing or faculty consent.
  • Description: Readings of literary and non-literary texts by women of the French-speaking world.
  • Note: Cross-listed with WGST 571.

  • Description: Consideration of German thought and sensibility from the Middle Ages to the present.

M L 553. Selected Authors in Foreign Literature

  • Prerequisite(s): Consent of instructor.
  • Description: The life and works of significant authors chosen from the panorama of foreign literature; their literary and/or cultural impact on society. Authors will vary from semester to semester.

M L 561. Masterpieces of Russian Literature

  • Description: Reading and discussion of the three greatest masterpieces of Russian literature: Tolstoy's "War and Peace," Dostoevsky's "Brothers Karamazov," and Pushkin's "Eugene Onegin".

  • Prerequisite(s): Consent of department chair.
  • Description: Independent study in areas not covered in the regular curriculum.

M L 605. Summer Workshop for Foreign Language Teachers

  • Prerequisite(s): Consent of instructor.
  • Description: Intensive, two-to-three-week workshop exploring a pedagogical topic.
  • Note: Cross-listed with LING 605.

M L 640. Graduate Reading Knowledge of Foreign Language

  • Grading Basis: Pass/Fail
  • Prerequisite(s): Graduate standing and approval of the chair.
  • Description: Intensive language course designed for graduate students who are preparing for language reading examinations, providing reading knowledge of a foreign language by focusing on fundamentals of translation.
  • Note: Cross-listed with HUM 640.
  • Note: The credits may not be used as part of a graduate program.
  • Note: May be repeated up to three (3) times for different languages.
