Doctor of Physical Therapy

Empower mobility and transform lives.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at UIndy’s Krannert School of Physical Therapy (KSPT) is a 3-year, full-time traditional campus-based program that primarily combines in-person and virtual instruction with real-world clinical experiences to prepare students for a career as a physical therapist.

Advantages

  • Classes take place on the UIndy campus weekdays throughout each semester, including summers.
  • Around 15% of program credits are now offered through virtual, online coursework to provide students with greater flexibility in their weekly schedules to allow for additional clinical and professional engagement.
  • Graduates of our professional, entry-level DPT program receive a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and are eligible to apply for licensure across the United States.
  • All incoming DPT students must hold a bachelor’s degree unless they are admitted to UIndy's accelerated undergraduate (3+3) program
  • UIndy freshman undergraduates are eligible for direct admission/early assurance

Clinical Education

The KSPT Clinical Education Team maintains many local and national contracts with high-quality clinical facilities where students learn hands-on application of skills from professional, trained clinical instructors.

About DPT Clinical Education

Student Activities

KSPT faculty and students work under UIndy’s “Education for Service” motto and engage in many co-curricular activities throughout the year.

Curriculum

The DPT curriculum consists of 115 total credit hours. The standard curriculum allows students to choose 5 credit hours of electives from one of two tracks: Research or Independent Professional Project.

Research Track

The Research Track allows students to participate in a faculty-designed and advised research project. Student assist with proposal development, data collection, analysis of results and dissemination of findings. Research projects typically lead to a peer-reviewed publication and/or presentation at a professional conference. For more information about the research conducted by KSPT faculty and students, see our Research web page.

Independent Professional Project Track

The Independent Professional Project Track allows students to advance their professional development through further exploration of an area of practice, further development of leadership or advocacy skills, or through building interprofessional collaborations. This is accomplished through independent study and additional coursework or learning activities arranged with a faculty advisor.

Accreditation and Outcomes

The Doctor of Physical Therapy programs at the University of Indianapolis are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

Admission Requirements

Applications for the DPT program are accepted from July 1 through October 1 each year. Our application process is competitive, with 8 to 10 applicants for each available space in the program. Accepted students will begin their DPT studies the following August.

Tuition & Aid

DPT tuition is charged as a flat rate per semester. Scholarships are available. In addition to tuition, students can expect additional charges for background checks, textbooks, professional liability fees, travel and housing expenses for clinical rotations, and other requirements.
