Advanced Cybersecurity MSc

Overview

The Advanced Cybersecurity MSc is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity, covering every major aspect of its existence and practice. Students will develop advanced expertise in the complex concepts central to the field, with a focus on mastering cutting-edge tools and techniques.


Course Structure

  • Duration: 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time
  • Location: Exton Park, Chester
  • UK Fees: £10,530 for the full course (2025/26)
  • International Fees: £15,000 (2025/26)

Modules

  • Research Methods (20 Credits) Core: Develops critical reasoning and understanding of other researchers' work.
  • Software Exploitation and Security (20 Credits) Core: Covers software attack techniques, exposure to exploitation techniques, and software protection methods.
  • Digital Forensics and Penetration Testing (20 Credits) Core: Explores penetration testing, active defence, digital forensics, and incident response.
  • Business Implication of Cybersecurity (20 Credits) Core: Develops understanding of the implications of cybersecurity to today's businesses.
  • Databases and Security (20 Credits) Core: Covers database creation, development, and security.
  • Programming for AI/Machine Learning (20 Credits) Option: Investigates different types of machine learning algorithms.
  • Bio-Inspired Computing (20 Credits) Option: Facilitates the study of biological processes and their ability to produce adaptive, dynamic solutions.
  • Research Project (if not studying a project/placement year): A demonstration of academic, subject-specific, and research capabilities.

Entry Requirements

  • Home Students: A good first Degree (normally a 2:2 or above) in IT-related or Engineering subject areas.
  • International Students: A good first Degree (normally a 2:2 or above) in IT-related or Engineering subject areas.
  • English Language Requirements: IELTS Academic: Postgraduate: 6.5 (minimum 5.5 in each band)
