Master of Rural and Remote Medicine

About the course

The Master of Rural and Remote Medicine is a broad-based degree for those wishing to pursue a career in teaching or research focused on rural and remote medicine. As rural and remote medicine is a generalist discipline, the range of research topics is very wide, from large-scale epidemiological studies to educational and qualitative or clinical studies.

Admission requirements

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have—


(a)(i) the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from this University, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty; and (ii)A. completed or be completing fellowship training in a primary care or equivalent specialty college; or B. a level of prior professional rural experience which, in the opinion of the Faculty, would enable the applicant to complete the course; or (b) completed the Graduate Certificate in Rural and Remote Medicine from this University.


English competency

English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA and you will need to meet the English language requirements of the University to be eligible for a place. Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.

Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens are offered a Tuition Fee Offset Scholarship which offsets the requirement to pay a contribution toward the cost of their research courses if UWA provides them with a Research Training Program (RTP) place. This Tuition Fee Offset Scholarship is applied for up a maximum of four years full-time equivalent study for the Doctor of Philosophy. The RTP is a performance-based funding scheme administered by the Australian Government Department of Education.
