Recreation Therapy

2 years – Ontario College Diploma

Overview

Train for a career in one of the fastest-growing professions. This is a rewarding, health-centered field where you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the quality of life of individuals with illness and/or disability. Through assessment, planning, and delivery of programs, you will help people lead more fulfilling and independent lives. This specific training will prepare you for a career in clinical and community-based settings.

Dual Diploma Option

Canadore graduates of this program are eligible to complete the Recreation and Leisure Services or Strength and Sport Conditioning program in one year.


Study Abroad

Study in Ireland at the Technological University of the Shannon, Midlands and Midwest as part of an exchange or graduate pathway

Certification/Accreditation

Ontario College Diploma


Upon graduating, students will have completed the formal education requirements for the R/TRO-DIP designation through Therapeutic Recreation Ontario.


Students may also have the opportunity to obtain numerous industry certifications outside of the classroom such as: Inclusion Certificate (Level One, Two and/or Three) from Variety Village, Gentle Persuasive Approaches Certificate, High Five Certification, First Aid/CPR Certification and NCCP Certification.


Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes represent culminating demonstrations of learning and achievement. In addition, learning outcomes are interrelated and cannot be viewed in isolation of one another. As such, they should be viewed as a comprehensive whole. They describe performances that demonstrate that significant integrated learning by graduates of the program has been achieved.
