Entomology, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Entomology is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and research skills in the field of entomology. The program requires students to complete 28 credits of coursework, including three core courses and five topic seminars (ENTM798 or equivalent). The five topic seminars must include a Responsible Conduct of Research seminar.
Program Requirements
- Complete 28 credits of coursework, including:
- Three core courses
- Five topic seminars (ENTM798 or equivalent), including a Responsible Conduct of Research seminar
- Register for and attend all Entomology Colloquium seminars until advancing to candidacy
- Complete 12 credits of ENTM899 Doctoral Dissertation Research
- Pass an oral qualifying examination and proposal defense for advancement to candidacy
- Present final dissertation research to the department in a public seminar, such as the Entomology Colloquium seminar series

Total Credits
The total credits required for the program are 40.
Advance to Candidacy
In addition to the course requirements, students must pass an oral qualifying examination and proposal defense for advancement to candidacy.
Post-Candidacy
After advancing to candidacy, students must complete at least 12 credits of ENTM899 Doctoral Dissertation Research and successfully defend and submit an original dissertation. Doctoral students are required to present their final dissertation research to the department in a public seminar, such as the Entomology Colloquium seminar series.
