Biomedical Engineering at the University of Waterloo

The Faculty of Engineering has a new graduate degree in Biomedical Engineering beginning 2025. Excellence in Biomedical Engineering research and education meets innovation in this program. Students are prepared to tackle today’s healthcare challenges with cutting-edge training at the intersection of biology, medicine, and engineering.


Program Overview

This program is a partnership with three engineering departments: Systems Design Engineering, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering.


Research Areas

The program includes the following research areas:


  • Biomaterials and tissue engineering
  • Biomechanics and rehabilitation
  • Biomedical imaging technologies
  • Biomedical informatics
  • Biomedical signals and devices

Program Details

Having run a highly successful Biomedical Engineering (BME) Undergraduate Program for the last 10 years, the Faculty of Engineering is now offering a graduate degree in Biomedical Engineering. The program prepares students to tackle today’s healthcare challenges with cutting-edge training at the intersection of biology, medicine, and engineering.
