Introduction to the Bachelor's Programme in Industrial Engineering and Management

The Bachelor's programme in Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) at the University of Groningen is designed for students who are curious about technology, enjoy problem-solving, and want to learn how companies improve their products, processes, and sustainability. This programme combines technical subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and programming with business, management, and logistics.

Programme Description

In this Bachelor's programme, students are trained as engineers with strong analytical, technical, and management skills. They learn how to analyse problems, design solutions, and assess their technical and economic feasibility. The programme focuses on the integration of technology and business, preparing students for an international career in industries worldwide.

Curriculum

The curriculum consists of two-thirds technical sciences and one-third business subjects. In the first year, students learn the basics of programming, modelling, and simulations, as well as the chemical and physical aspects of materials and molecules. The programme also includes courses on business and management, such as industrial marketing and management accounting.

Tracks

In the second semester of the second year, students choose a track:

  • Sustainable Process Engineering: This track focuses on the process from raw material to final product, with special attention to the chemical and biochemical aspects of the production process.
  • Production Technology and Logistics: This track focuses on logistics and the automation of production processes in large factories.

Programme Options

  • Production Techniques
  • Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing
  • Modelling and Analysis of Complex Networks
  • Mechanics for IEM
  • Production Planning and Quality Control
  • Outlining and Implementing Innovation Strategy

Study Abroad

Study abroad is optional.
