Global Development

The Global Development program at Queen Mary University of London is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the complex challenges facing our world today. The program offers a comprehensive understanding of the cultural, political, and historical trends shaping our world, and provides students with the tools to creatively solve today's challenges.


Overview

The program is designed for students who are passionate about confronting inequality, tackling injustice, and solving global challenges. Students will discover cutting-edge ideas and practices, debate development theory, explore evidence-based responses to major world issues, and learn the interdisciplinary tools needed to create positive change.


Structure

The program can be completed in three or four years, with the option to study abroad in the third year. The program is divided into three years, with compulsory and optional modules in each year.

The program offers two study options:


  • Global Development BA (Hons)
  • Global Development with Year Abroad BA (Hons)

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for the program are as follows:


  • A-Level: Grades ABB at A-Level
  • IB: International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum of 32 points overall, including 6,5,5 from three Higher Level subjects
  • BTEC: See our detailed subject and grade requirements
  • Access HE: We consider applications from students with the Access to Higher Education Diploma
  • GCSE: Minimum five GCSE passes including English and Maths at grade C or 4
  • EPQ: Alternative offers may be made to applicants taking the Extended Project Qualification
  • Contextualised admissions: Our standard contextual offer: BBC at A-Level. Our enhanced contextual offer: BCC at A-Level

Funding

The program offers various funding options, including loans and grants, scholarships and bursaries, and support from Queen Mary.


Careers

Graduates from the program will be well equipped with a number of transferable and sought-after skills, which will prepare them for careers in a wide range of sectors, including development consultancy, NGOs and development agencies, and project management in the public and third sector.
