Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated) is a four-year research degree which incorporates a traditional three-year PhD thesis with one year of coursework subjects, combining generic research training and discipline-specific content into a single degree.
Admissions Information

Entry Requirements
Students must have successfully completed:
- A 4-year Undergraduate degree with an equivalent average mark of 65+ or GPA 3 out of 4, or
- A Coursework Masters with an equivalent average mark of 65+ or GPA 3 out of 4
Special Admissions Requirements
All applicants for research degrees must submit a written proposal as part of their application. The proposal should:
- Commence with a statement detailing any previous research or project experience you have undertaken, including, if possible, a copy of the abstract of such work
- Contain, in no more than one additional page, a clearly focused research proposal for the study you would wish to undertake throughout your registration in the course
- Conclude with a statement of your motivation for wanting to undertake the research course
Academic Entry Requirements
To succeed in your chosen course, you should have completed relevant subjects in senior high school or other qualifications.
English Language Requirements
The following level of English is required to gain admission to this program:
- IELTS Academic: Overall Score 6.5, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0, Listening 6.0, Speaking 6.0
- TOEFL (Internet-based): Overall Score 86, Reading 18, Writing 18, Listening 17, Speaking 17
- UOW College: English for Tertiary Studies: Credit (weighted average mark of 65 overall and minimum 50 in Academic Reading and Writing)

Workload
- Full-Time Study Load: As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week.
- Credit for Prior Learning: The maximum amount of external credit that can be awarded at the postgraduate level is 50% of the credit point value of the UOW course.
