Overview

The Master of Professional Accounting Advanced (Financial Management) is a two-year course designed for non-accounting graduates who want a career in the accounting profession and want to enhance their learning experience by including another discipline specialisation within their course. The learning experience and knowledge areas in the MPA Advanced are focused on the practice of accounting.


Program Structure

Within the MPA Advanced, you can choose to complete one of three possible specialisations, depending on your career aspirations:


  • Financial management - focus on areas of financial management such as banking and securities.
  • International business - broaden your knowledge of intercultural aspects of the business environment.
  • Business analytics - utilise and interpret data to inform business strategies and add value to businesses.

Accreditation & Professional Recognition

The University of Wollongong has been awarded with the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) accreditation. The Master of Professional Accounting and the Master of Professional Accounting (Advanced) enables students to meet the educational and membership requirements of CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants ANZ, and international professional associations ACCA and CIMA.


Admissions Information

A range of admission options are available for future students. The procedures governing admission are defined in UOW's Admissions Procedures, and the UOW College Admissions Policy.


Entry Requirements

  • A recognised bachelor’s degree in any discipline with an equivalent average mark of 50%.
  • A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Accounting with an equivalent average mark of 50%.
  • A recognised master’s degree in any discipline with an equivalent average mark of 50%.
  • Other tertiary qualifications, combined with extensive professional work experience, will be considered.

English Language Requirements

The following level of English is required to gain admission to this program:


  • IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each band.
  • TOEFL (Internet-based): 86 overall, with a minimum of 18 in Reading and Writing, and 17 in Listening and Speaking.
  • UOW College: English for Tertiary Studies: Credit (weighted average mark of 65 overall and minimum 50 in Academic Reading and Writing).

Workload

As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study.


Credit for Prior Learning

Students who have completed a UOW Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting will be granted 24 credit points (4 core subjects) credit towards their MPA degree. If you have completed prior studies or relevant professional experience, you can request course credit or subject exemptions to reduce the duration and cost of your program.

  • Additional fees: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF)
