Respiratory Therapy, B.S.R.T. Program Overview

The goal of the UNC Charlotte Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy Program is to provide graduates entry into respiratory care professional practice degree programs with additional knowledge, skills, and attributes in leadership, management, education, research, and/or advanced clinical practice that will enable them to meet their current professional goals and prepare them for practice as advanced degree respiratory therapists.

Program Details

The B.S.R.T. degree enhances professional careers in respiratory therapy with additional education in administration, evidence-based research, and advanced critical care. The focus of the program is to increase the depth and breadth of knowledge of the associate degree respiratory therapy education, improve written and oral communication skills, and develop the ability to access and evaluate clinical evidence-centered care.

Program Emphasis

The emphasis of the curriculum is to enhance and advance the students professional career in respiratory therapy with additional education in professional writing, teaching strategies, health care administration, evidence-based research, critical appraisal skills, and advanced critical care management.

Admission Criteria

Students seeking admission into this program will already be licensed respiratory therapists who have the RRT credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Program Objectives

The Respiratory Therapy major prepares graduates of associate-level programs in respiratory therapy who have achieved the RRT credential with the expanded knowledge, critical thinking ability, and communication skills necessary to become leaders in respiratory education, management, research, and advanced clinical practice.

The program is offered through the College of Health and Human Services and the Department of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences.
