MA in American Studies

Description of the Program
The MA in American Studies program offers a comprehensive overview of the field at the graduate level. Students are required to take core courses in the different subfields of American Studies and in related areas such as cultural studies and cultural history, the social sciences, and research methodologies. The program culminates in a thesis supervised by the Institute of English Studies, which must be defended to earn the MA degree.

- Minimum condition for entry to the Masters degree program: at least 38 credits in the field of English and American Studies.
- Certified and translated (if originals are not in English) copy of school transcripts showing satisfactory completion of senior high school.
- Europass CV in English
- Motivation letter (introduction plus field of interest, etc.) in 3000 to 3500 characters.
- Copy of valid passport or national ID
- Medical certificate, including:
- Vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B)
- HEP A/B/C test*
- HIV test*
- Chest X-ray: Please attach the chests X-ray result (not the film!) in English/Hungarian! (not older than 3 months)
- Transfer receipt of the EUR 140 application fee
- C1 level of English language knowledge.
- Acceptable online language exams:
- IELTS Indicator from score 7.0
- Oxford Online Placement Test: 81 points
- Official copy of the following language exam certificates:
- TOEFL (iBT internet-based): 95
- TOEFL CBT: 220
- IELTS: Overall Band Score: 7
- ECL: C1 level
- Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE and ISE Digital): ISE III
- Pearson PTE Academic: 76 points
- Oxford Test of English Advanced (OTEA): 141 points
- Michigan English Test: 64 points
Exemptions from Language Examination
Applicants are exempt from the language examination requirement if they:
- Hold a BA degree in English/ American Studies BA major and have an English proficiency (MOI) certificate issued by the Registrar's Office of the applicant's previous university
- Pass an entrance exam (personally or via Skype)
