Introduction

The International Studies Center at the University of Pécs offers complex and integrated preparatory programs for degree studies that meet the language development needs of international students and facilitate their integration into the context of higher education in Hungary.

Description of the Program

The preparatory programs are made up of three stages, each comprising 400 lessons:

1. The Milestone Stage: Designed for students who need additional support in meeting the minimum requirements in English. Communicative and cooperative language classes assist students in attaining intermediate (B1) level.
2. The Upgrade Stage: Focuses on language development in a manner that resembles more the academic context awaiting students. Students have the opportunity to select courses from a range of compulsory and elective modules modeled upon university seminars, assisting them in attaining upper-intermediate (B2) level.
3. The Gateway Stage: Specifically designed for students with outstanding English skills (already reaching or exceeding B2 level). The program merges language instruction (Academic English and ESP) with field-specific subject teaching, thus improving language skills while becoming knowledgeable in their future field of degree studies.

Transparency of Entry and Output Requirements

• The preparatory program starts with an online placement test (written and oral) to find the best possible study stage for students.
• The program ends with an internationally recognized ECL language exam (upper-intermediate or advanced).

Application Requirements

• General Entry Requirements: For general entry and language requirements, please refer to the relevant page.
• No language requirement at the preparatory courses of ISC, but the length of the course depends on the level of English knowledge.
• The 1200-contact-hour (15-month) preparatory course syllabus is necessary for those candidates who do not have evaluable language skill in the target language.
• Documents to Submit:
  • Certified and translated (if originals are not in English) copy of school transcripts showing satisfactory completion of senior high school.
  • Europass CV in English
  • Copy of valid passport or national ID
  • Medical certificate, including:
    • Vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B)
    • HEP A/B/C test
    • HIV test
    • Chest X-ray result (not older than 3 months)
