Master in Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship
The Master in Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship is a postgraduate program designed to impart knowledge to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths (STEAM) graduates, allowing them to become successful entrepreneurs and launch their own business ventures. The program focuses on the requirements of entrepreneurs, covering topics such as Innovation, Marketing, Strategy, Business Planning, Finance, Risk Management, and Performance Management.
Program Overview
The program is offered over a period of three semesters full-time, with face-to-face tuition imparted over four week-long intensive training periods, coupled with intensive personal mentoring sessions during the subsequent dissertation period. A mentored project allows students to develop a feasibility study on a business of their choice, leading to a final project consisting of a detailed business plan and funding presentations that can be applied in real life.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must be in possession of:
- A Bachelor's degree from the University of Malta with at least Second Class (Honours) or Category II in the areas of Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Media, Communications, and the Humanities, or in any other area deemed appropriate by the Board.
- Applicants with a Bachelor's degree from the University of Malta with Third Class Honours or Category III in the highlighted disciplines may apply if they also possess other qualifications or at least five years of relevant work experience.
- Applicants without the indicated qualifications may be considered if they submit a letter of motivation and a detailed curriculum vitae showing their experience and achievements to the satisfaction of the Admissions Board.

The program consists of the following compulsory units:
- Semester 1:
- EBI5001: Introduction to Entrepreneurship (10 ECTS)
- EBI5002: Creativity and Innovation - From Ideas to Products and Services (5 ECTS)
- EBI5003: Marketing and Strategy for Entrepreneurs (5 ECTS)
- Semester 2:
- EBI5000: Mentored Entrepreneurship Project (20 ECTS)
- EBI5004: Business Planning for Entrepreneurs (5 ECTS)
- EBI5005: Enterprise Finance - Funding for Growth (5 ECTS)
- EBI5006: Risk Management - Products and Projects (5 ECTS)
- EBI5007: Performance Management - People and Organisations (5 ECTS)
- Summer Semester:
- EBI5008: Final Project - Business Plan (30 ECTS)
Learning Outcomes
By successfully completing the Master in Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship, students should be able to:
- Display a thorough understanding of entrepreneurship and what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur.
- Use their knowledge and understanding of entrepreneurship to plan, launch, manage, and grow a sustainable commercial or social enterprise.
- Develop a broad knowledge and understanding of business models, market appraisals, business plans, cash flow forecasts, marketing and funding strategies, and how to execute an exit strategy.
- Create a sound business plan and apply it as a management tool.
- Appraise the main ways in which businesses are valued and identify how and when to raise funding for growth via debt or equity finance.
- Assess how good project planning and management can minimize business risk.
