Aims and Characteristics
Aims
The general aim of the programme is to train competent professionals for the fashion business in textiles, apparel, retailing, design, and related organisations. These professionals will play an active role in the development of the global fashion and textiles industry in local and overseas markets.
Characteristics
Based on desired careers and academic performance, students can pursue studies in one of the following five specialisms under the BA (Hons) Scheme:

- Retailing and Marketing
- Intimate Apparel and Activewear

Curriculum
Students admitted to the senior year of the 4-year degree programme must specialise in one of the following specialisms under our BA Scheme:
- Design
- Knitwear Design and Technology
- Retail and Marketing
- Intimate Apparel and Activewear
- Technology
Final Year Project Requirement (for all specialisms)
- Professional Language Skills and Project Preparation (by Thesis/Collection) (4 credits)
- Final Year Project (by Thesis/Collection) (5 credits)
Work-integrated Education (WIE)
As a graduation requirement, every student must complete a minimum of 3 weeks or 120 hours of Work-integrated Education (WIE) in an organizational context relevant to their future profession in the garment and textiles industry.
General University Requirement (GUR) Subjects
- Language and Communication Requirements (LCR) (9 credits): Students not meeting the equivalent standard of the undergraduate degree LCR, based on their previous studies in AD/HD programmes and their academic performance, will be required to take additional credits (6 credits in English and 3 credits in Chinese) on top of the required credits.
- Cluster-Area Requirements (CAR) (6 credits): Students are required to successfully complete subjects (i.e., 6 credits) in any of the following four Cluster Areas (two CAR subjects cannot be from the same Cluster Area):
- Human Nature, Relations and Development (HRD)
- Community, Organisation and Globalisation (COG)
- History, Culture and World Views (HCW)
- Science, Technology and Environment (STE)
- Service Learning Subject (3 credits)
Professional Recognition
Graduates with 2 years of relevant post-qualification experience can apply for:
- Associateship of the Textile Institute in the UK (ATI)
- Graduate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel (GHKITA)

Entrance Requirements
- An Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma in Fashion and Textile Studies, or the equivalent.

- Supplementary form is not required. Applicants will be invited via email to complete an online form with their application ID to declare their intended choices of Specialism in due course.

Those who are offered interviews are required to bring a portfolio/ creative work of their work. Suitable candidates for the Technology/ Retail and Marketing specialisms may be invited to perform a written test or an interview at PolyU or via Skype/ MS Teams.
