The Master's program in Sport Science Research (SSR) at the University of Bern is a 120 ECTS monomaster program designed for students with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Science who aim to pursue a career in research. The program provides students with in-depth knowledge of social and behavioral science research methods and access to the excellent research laboratories of the Institute.
Program Structure
The interdisciplinary SSR Master's program enables students to specialize in research areas of various departments. A key element of the program is the project work in a research focus area of the ISPW with mentorship by a senior researcher. The standard study period is 4 semesters, and the consecutive Master's program is completed with a Master's thesis (Major 120 ECTS).
Study Content
The Master's program in Sport Science Research deals with questions about the phenomenon of sport from a social and behavioral science perspective in an in-depth and scientific manner. The course "Problem-oriented Sports Science" and research methodology provide students with the tools to address complex questions in sports. Specific courses in sports science research support students in developing independent research questions. The elective area allows SSR students to create an individual profile through selected seminar events that build on the in-depth sports science events.
Admission Requirements
The following study certificates entitle students to admission to the Mono Sport Science Research program:
- A Bachelor's degree from a Swiss university in the field of Sports Science
- A Bachelor's degree from a Swiss university in another field with at least 60 ECTS credits in Sports Science, provided that the necessary prerequisites for successful completion of the Master's program can be acquired through additional achievements of up to 60 ECTS credits
- A Bachelor's degree from a recognized foreign university with equivalent qualifications, provided that the necessary prerequisites for successful completion of the Master's program can be acquired through additional achievements of up to 60 ECTS credits
